ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, CAREER COUNSELOR

I am a Board licensed Therapist in professional counseling private practice providing adult and child therapy specializing in mental wellness, anxiety, depression, career, Christian faith, culture and race, and parent-child relationships.

THERAPY | FAITH | CULTURE

I am passionate about us experiencing mental and spiritual health, and committed to bridging the gap in culturally sensitive and faith inclusive professional mental healthcare. My profession is my purpose. I am thankful that I get to serve you in ways that are foundational. Growing up and working in diverse communities is why I enjoy experiencing the food, music, dance and people of different cultures.

IDENTITY AND MENTAL HEALTH

I lived in two countries in Europe, with my Ethiopian parents. We then moved and I grew up in the U.S. I felt conflict in my cultural identity when I thought I had to choose from the cultural options that already existed. I felt stress trying to cope with racism. I valued my Ethiopian culture and family, felt a connection to my identity as an American, and grew to realize that certain things I needed for my mental health would also cause me to disagree with certain cultural norms. Wholeness began for me when I realized I only needed to personally keep what I valued of culture and what allowed me to remain healthy.

THERAPY AND CULTURE

I became concerned with how hard it was to find Therapists that understood the cultural and racial experiences of clients, in my previous career. I saw the disconnect this caused in benefitting from therapy and became committed to increasing access to effective therapy by increasing access to culturally and racially considerate therapy.

THERAPY AND FAITH

During my professional counseling training, I discovered and observed that God offers relationship and guidance that can further support mental health. For those seeking Christian integrated counseling, I can help you further identify and engage healthy faith and mental health practices.

MENTAL HEALTH AT WORK

My last 11 years of counseling practice showed me that many professionals feel like they often prioritize their work at the expense of their mental health, as the demands of work or culture of origin require greater time and attention.  I value helping you discover how to have more peace, motivation and fulfillment in your work and life, and how to have healthier work-life balance.

THERAPIST | SPEAKER

As a Speaker, I am encouraged that companies and organizations are seeing and welcoming the individual and collective impact of learning healthy mind and faith practices.

LPC SUPERVISOR

I value supporting the wellbeing and professional development of the next generation of therapists through the clinical supervision I provide for therapists in postgraduate training.

REGISTERED PLAY THERAPIST

As a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), I continue to be awed by the power of therapeutic play with children, along with our collective ability to come into a more confident and empowered version of ourselves as we heal.

How I chose the name “The Journey Inspired”:

MENTAL HEALTH | PURPOSE

It is exciting what happens for you when you move into your wellness. As you access greater mental health and spiritual health, you often grow inspired and equipped to live more fully and experience a life that is more fulfilled and peaceful, as it becomes a life lived on purpose.
