A: You notice significant changes in the person. The person does not seem like themselves. While people grow and change, sudden changes in a person can be a key indicator that therapy is needed.
A: Regular or persistent discouragement in a perceived area of need. 5 Key Mental Health Stress Factors
A: To get help with achieving personal or professional goals. Even when therapy may not be necessary to repair what is hurt or broken, therapy can still be beneficial to strengthen and equip what is already strong. Therapy is not only about healing or addressing concern. Therapy can also be for preventive care, personal development and further leveraging opportunities.
A: Your physician or a Board licensed health professional are the professionals that can generally best help you determine if you may benefit from counseling. These professionals are trained to inquire of specific symptoms and indicators, to interpret the meaning of those symptoms and to make recommendations in the best interest of your mental health. If you have noticed significant changes in mood or function over the last 2 weeks, scheduling a therapy session would generally be best practice for self care.
-
A: Considering your goals and desired outcomes, and what would contribute to your sense of comfort and confidence in a Counselor can also be helpful. Key factors in choosing a Therapist can vary based on the individual and their current needs.
A: As a Therapist, here are key things that I have found are valuable when looking for a Therapist:
-Speciality or expertise in your areas of concern
-Experience in treating or helping with your goals
-Experience, and evident personal and professional commitment to regard and support your cultural, racial, and spiritual needs
-Relevant and in-depth education and training: Many professions sound alike but vary greatly in education and training. When it comes to mental healthcare and personal development, I prefer at minimum, a Board Licensed Professional Counselor because they have received extensive education (a Master’s of Arts which takes a minimum of 2 years), passed The National Counselor Examination (NCE) which is a 200-item national examination designed to assess knowledge, skills and abilities determined to be important for providing effective counseling services, must practice for 2-5 years for at least 3,000 hours (1,500 hours must be direct counseling) under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor before practicing independently, are required to complete annual continuing education to ensure ongoing counseling education and development, adhere to standards of law and ethics, and are accountable to a regulating Board regarding the practice of professional counseling.

A: You may consider questions to help you determine if your insurance may cover the full or partial cost of therapy service, such as:
(1) Does my health insurance plan include mental health services and benefits?
(2) What are the various mental services and benefits included in my plan?
(3) Do I have a deductible, copay, or coinsurance?
(4) Does my plan limit how many sessions I can access per year? If so, what is that limit?
(5) Do I need written recommendation from my Primary Care Physician in order for services to be covered?
(6) Is Tizita Seifu an in-network provider?
(7) If you are seeking family counseling, do you cover family counseling?
-
A: The length of therapy depends on key considerations such as your primary concerns, your goals for therapy, how significantly your concerns may be affecting your mood and function, the length of time you have had your concerns, your general capacity to manage your concerns, and your medical history. It is especially important to continue therapy consistently when concerns include improving your ability to function as needed. The length of therapy is ultimately decided by the client and their goals for therapy. Continuing therapy can be a wise decision when both the client and Therapist can observe healthy benefits or value to the client’s mood or function. I will need to see you for approximately 1-3 sessions before I can make clinical recommendations about treatment, such as length of treatment.

A: Counseling is provided in English as this is my only language of fluency and because I believe a client is generally best served by a Therapist that is fluent in their language in order to increase understanding. I also understand how difficult it can be to find an Ethiopian Therapist that speaks Amharic so I offer resources above and the following additional response below.
A: Where an individual may be having difficulty finding an Ethiopian Counselor that provides Amharic Counseling or appropriate interpretation services, providing therapy in Amharic will be considered on a case by case basis and where the prospective client is agreeable to the understanding that fluency in Amharic is not available.
-
A: Coaching services are only provided in English due to fluent language proficiency solely being available in English.
