Christian Faith in Action and Mental Health

MIRACLES IN MENTAL HEALTH
Miracles in mental health often happen through people. God often performs miracles through people. As a Therapist, one of the services I am passionate and trained in is helping Christians make clinically and Biblically informed decisions to support their mental health and spiritual health. I discuss 3 key things to consider with Christian faith and mental health.
FAITH IN WAITING
I am concerned that Christian culture has and still does often encourage people to solely wait on God to resolve our difficulties of mental health such as stress, sadness, worry, conflict, when faith in action may in fact be the solution. I understand that sometimes God may lead someone to wait; indeed there is a time for that. I understand that sometimes waiting is the direction one may receive or sense. Sometimes waiting is the complete and full expression of faith.
FAITH IN ACTION
I also know that often times it is in actions that we express our faith. It is often in our thoughts and behaviors that we evidence our faith. For those who believe in the guidance of God through the Bible, we most often see faith expressed through action. There is also a common misunderstanding that to seek mental health help from others is to doubt God. To seek therapy from others is to lack faith. To help yourself is to get ahead of God. Though this would be true when it contradicts the guidance of God, none of these things are inherently true. Whether in medicine or in the Bible, miracles are often expressed through people. Miracles often occur with the actions of others. While mental health can often be managed proactively, sometimes whether due to circumstance or illness, we may need a miracle in our mental health. While I by no means claim to be a miracle working Therapist, I am a Therapist that believes I can be used by God to help others in their mental health and spiritual health.
CHRISTIAN FAITH & THERAPY
Normalize seeking out therapy as a Christian. Consider seeking out personal support. Consider therapy if you have not been feeling like yourself, especially if you had difficulty for more than 2 weeks.
