Are you 1 out 2 people who will face mental illness? 46% of the U.S. will experience mental illness at least 1x in their lifetime*
NBC recently reported that the average person waits 11 years from the time they become concerned about their mental health before they seek help. Most people I share this with have been shocked to hear that it generally takes that long. 11 years is a long time to carry the weight of stress or mental health struggles.
11 years is a long time to begin to experience the life you want to live.
Does waiting really matter?: How waiting to tend to your mental health may affect you:
In my experience as a Therapist providing adult and child therapy for over 10 years, waiting to address our stress or mental health concerns can regularly have at least some of the affects:
increased stress
reduced motivation
reduced ability to manage stress, or life’s challenges
increased sadness
increased anxiety
increased tension with ourselves or others
reduced enjoyment
reduced ability to have peace
decreased ability to enjoy the present
What is a Mental Wellness Checkup:
As a Therapist working in many diverse communities, I too have seen the common adverse affects of waiting to connect to professional and effective care for our mental health. I have seen how it makes it harder to enjoy peace instead of worry, and success instead of overwhelming obstacles.
Out of my concern for these adverse effects to your quality of life, I developed and offer Mental Wellness Checkups. Your physician may have conducted a mental health exam that often focuses on quickly assessing and responding to mental illness.

When Should I Consider a Mental Wellness Checkup:
You want to learn habits that are commonly known to ensure you have healthy habits that achieve your goals, such as habits and tools that may:
reduce heaviness or stress, and increase motivation and equipping to achieve personal and professional goals
reduce stress, and increase fulfillment and work-life balance
reduce worry, tension, avoidance, overwhelm, a racing mind, and increase peace
further support peace, motivation and resilience when engaging mentally healthy and spiritually healthy practices
You want to know signs of a healthy vs unhealthy, or toxic work or ministry environment
You want to check in with a mental health professional from time to time to support you in staying on track with your personal or professional development goals
How Soon Should You Consider a Mental Wellness Checkup:
If you are generally feeling well in mood and functioning as desired, a checkup at least once per year may be helpful.
If you are generally feeling well in mood and functioning as desired, yet live or work in a highly demanding environment, a checkup at least every 3 months may be considered; considering counseling in such circumstances, may also be more helpful to proactively maintain your mental health.
